Arizona State University’s Department of Military Science established the ASU Army ROTC James McClintock Hall of Fame in 2021, inducting its first two ASU Army ROTC alumni members—Colonel (Ret.) James Barker and Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Dallas Eubanks—on May 5, 2021. The Hall of Fame is named in honor of James McClintock, a member of the first graduating class of the Territorial Normal School at Tempe, which would later become Arizona State University. A veteran of Theodore Roosevelt’s Rough Riders, McClintock fought courageously in Cuba during the Spanish-American War, where he sustained serious injuries. He later continued his military service as the elected colonel of the First Arizona Infantry and remained deeply committed to public service throughout his life.

McClintock served as the first president of the Normal School Alumni Association, led the Rough Riders Association, and became the inaugural commander of the Spanish War Veterans for the Department of Arizona. Beyond his military and civic contributions, he was an educator, historian, and community leader whose legacy embodies the spirit of leadership, dedication, and service that the Hall of Fame seeks to honor.

The Hall of Fame aims to inspire and mentor future leaders by connecting them with distinguished individuals who have shaped the program’s history. The idea for its creation originated in 2019 with Mrs. Lisa Robbins (former Army ROTC Business Operations Specialist), Master Sergeant (Ret.) Cunningham (former Senior Military Science Instructor), Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Dallas Eubanks (former Recruiting Operations Officer), and Colonel (Ret.) James Sink (former Professor of Military Science). Their vision was to recognize those who have made exceptional contributions to the advancement of the Army ROTC program at ASU and to build a lasting tradition of mentorship that bridges the program’s proud past with its promising future. Through this initiative, the ASU Army ROTC Hall of Fame not only honors individuals who have made a profound impact on the program but also strengthens the bond between alumni and cadets as they prepare for lives of service and leadership.
