The Sun Devil Battalion is celebrating 77 years at ASU!
Throughout decades of forming the military leaders of tomorrow, the Sun Devil Battalion at ASU has gone through changes to keep up and adapt with the evolving times. From mandatory ROTC, to Coed classes to the first female lieutenants, the Sun Devil Battalion has been laser-focused on producing quality leaders that would go on to serve their Nation with the highest honor.
The Military instruction on the Tempe Campus was initiated with the National Guard Support in 1897. One of the early supporters of Military Training at the Territorial Normal School was CPT. Carl Hayden, Commander Officer of Company C, the National Guard Tempe Unit. First known as The Normal Cadet Company (Article in the Arizona Republican March 12, 1898 and October 14, 1903) to the Normal School Cadet Company N.G of Arizona (The Arizona Republican, April 21, 1904), the Sun Devil Battalion officially started in Campus on Fall Semester of 1948.
